Nextbit starts selling of Robin smartphone at $399

Nextbit started to sell their cloud-focused smartphone, Robin. The smartphone is listed on company site for price tag of $399. The smartphone was initially shipped to the 1,000 backers of the Nextbit’s kickstarter campaign. Company also mentioned that only 3,000 to 6,000 phones are available.

The smartphone comes with two carrier variant: GSM and CDMA. Currently only unlocked GSM variant is available. While the CDMA variant is for Verizon and Sprint. Handset is also available in Mint and Midnight color option.

The idea of the smartphone was to solve the memory problem of the Android device. Nextbit came with the idea of integrating cloud storage with the onboard storage of the device. Comapny started working on it and collected funding from kickstart and build Robin.

Robin backs up the app and other data from smartphone which is not in use, to the cloud. And it restores it when needed. Nextbit OS integrates the cloud with the Android. The smartphone has 4 lights on rear side which will Lite up when you connect the Robin to Wi-Fi for sync.

Company also kept in mind the battery drainage and excess data charges due to continuous synchronisation. When you charge your Robin and connect to WiFi then only the sync will start.

Looking at the specifications, Robin features 5.2-inch FHD IPS LCD display with Gorilla Glass 4 protection. It is powered by Qualcomm snapdragon 808 processor coupled with 3GB. Smartphone comes with 32 GB built-in memory and 100GB online storage space.

Robin sports 13 MP Rear camera with phase detection autofocus(PDAF) and dual-tone flash. Smartphone also equipped with 5 MP selfie camera. Nextbit also focused on the security of the smartphone. Robin comes with the fingerprint ID sensor and Google authentication.

Robin has dual front speakers for great sound experience. One of the great feature of the smartphone is the unlockable bootloader and open source drivers. Due to this users can load any other ROM into smartphone without affecting the warranty of device.

Robin offers connectivity options like Qualcomm™ Quick Charge 2.0, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac and NFC support. Smartphone comes with USB type C port. Though the quick charger is not included in the box,but you can buy it separately from company site.

Nextbit also made available the accessories for the smartphone to buy from the site. The accessories includes Bruises cases, Bumps cases,scratches cases, screen protector, Quick charger and charging cable.
