A year after debuting its first Blackphone, startup Silent Circle announced a second-generation secure-phone successor: Blackphone 2, along with a tablet and broader ambition to protect customers’ privacy.
The Blackphone 2 will bring the usual upgrades — a faster processor, more memory, better battery life and a bigger display. The Blackphone 2 has a more premium look and feel than the original plastic device, with an all-glass front and rear. Silent Circle has priced the phone at $649.
Blackphone hardware runs a hardened Android fork, called PrivatOS, so it’s also compatible with Android apps. The smartphone is powered by updated 64-bit octa-core processor in an yet unknown chipset and a much larger 5.5″ 1080p display covered in Gorilla Glass 3. The smartphone features 3GB of RAM and have additional features include microSD card slot, LTE support.
The smrtphone features 13 MP rear camera and 5 MP front camera. The Blackphone 2 sports a 3,060mAh battery, which features quick charging.
