After so much patience Sony finally announced the PlayStation VR headset at the Game Developers conference i.e. GDC 2016. The device will launch in Japan, North America, Europe and Asia in October this year. Company also announced the price, specification and other details of the PlayStation VR. Pre-order for the headset will start from March 16 globally.
“Ever since we unveiled PS VR during the 2014 Game Developers Conference, we’ve received a tremendous response from gamers and developers alike,” said Andrew House, President and Global CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. He also added, “To make sure that we are able to prepare and deliver enough units of PS VR and a wide variety of software titles to consumers worldwide, we have decided to launch PS VR in October 2016. For those who are looking forward to its launch, we would like to thank everyone for their patience and continued support. We are beyond excited to deliver to consumers the amazing experience that PS VR offers.”
PlayStation VR Price
During the event Sony also announced the pricing details for the different markets. PlayStation VR will be priced at Japan for 44980 YEN, while in US it will cost $399. In Europe it will be available at price tag of €399 and in UK it will be £349. As India falls into the Europe region for Sony the device it is expected to price around Rs. 40,000, which also is the launch prove of PlayStation 4 in country.
PlayStation VR Availability
As the launch of the device held on October, the headset will be available immediately after the launch in the selected markets. Though confirm date has not yet declared. In India, it will launch at the same time as it launches in Europe.
PlayStation VR Specifications
It comes with 5.7 inch screen with OLED display. VR headset weighs 610g while the processor unit weigh 365g. The panel has 1920×RGB×1080 (960×RGB×1080 per eye) resolution and approximately 100 degrees of view. The device have refresh rate of 120Hz, 90 Hz and Six-axis motion sensing system (three-axis gyroscope, three-axis accelerometer). For connectivity VR headset have HDMI, AUX, Stereo Headphone Jack ports while processor unit comes with HDMI TV, HDMI PS4, USB, HDMI, AUX connection interface. It measures 187x185x227mm in dimensions.
In The Box
Along with the specification and the price details, Sony also revealed the final consumer version of PS VR including all contents. PlayStation VR box includes VR headset, Processor unit, VR headset connection cable, HDMI cable, USB cable, Stereo headphones (with a complete set of earpiece), AC power cord, AC adaptor. Sony also said that 230 developers and published are working on PlayStation VR software titles and at the end of year 50 games will be available in PS VR.

Additionally, The Playroom VR will be available as a free download from PlayStation Store for all PS VR owners. The Playroom VR will include six games and as Sony mentioned, that can be enjoyed with friends and family, demonstrating why VR can also be an impactful experience when it’s shared.
